Saint Mary’s College expects every member of its community to abide by the Academic Honor Code. According to the Code, “Academic dishonesty is a serious violation of College policy because, among other things, it undermines the bonds of trust and honesty between members of the community.” Some violations of the honor code include but are not limited to:
- Using or providing unauthorized material on homework, quizzes, and exams;
- Uploading quiz or exam questions to online platforms
- Plagiarizing words, phrases, sections, key terms, proofs, graphics, symbols, or original ideas from another source without citation;
- Collaboration within a class or across sections of a class without the consent of the instructor;
- Failure to cite a source that was used in preparing the paper;
- Fabricating or falsifying data in any academic exercise, including labs or fieldwork (research);
- Using material out of context to inappropriately support one’s claims;
Of the items in the code above, I have emphasized those that are most applicable to student work in this course.
Violations of the Academic Honor Code will result in failure of the course and a note of the violation on your transcript. It is each student’s responsibility to review the Academic Honor Code and to be familiar with relevant policies and procedures. The Code can be found in the Student Handbook
